Does art help you in other areas of your life?

I spent 10 years in the Navy, and while I left with life skills, grit, and determination, I also left with major depressive disorder and PTSD. Having a craft is a fantastic outlet to improve my focus, work with my hands, and think critically.

How has your style changed over time?

At first, I was trying to be as natural as possible. I didn’t want to use dyes, preservatives, artificial fragrance, or anything that didn’t come straight from nature. As I’ve grown, I’ve learned that not everything can be achieved naturally. I always heard that synthetic ingredients were bad for you. When you actually learn about where they come from and how to safely use them, synthetic ingredients outperform natural in almost every category.

How do you stay inspired and motivated to create new art?

My customers are the ones that have driven my products to be what they are today. Every little bit of feedback has pushed me out of my comfort zone too try new things. I owe everything to them.

How did you become interested in your craft?

It was my husband’s idea. He brought home a milking goat one day, and very quickly we had more milk than we knew what to do with. We drank it, made coffee creamer, made cheese, but we still had so much. When he suggested to make soap with it, I never stopped. Soap was a stepping stone into lotion and bath bombs.

Are you self-taught or did you take classes?

I did all the research and development on my own, but I had a wealth of knowledge from experienced people in the industry.

Do you work in multiple mediums? What is your favorite?

Currently, I make soap, lotion, body balms, and bath bombs. My favorite thing to make is lotion. I love the math and science behind lotion formulation.

How long have you been working in your craft?

I started in August of 2024.

Do you create every day?

I did when I first started. I was working on my creations from the moment I woke up until I went to bed. It was a major passion project for me. For my own mental health, I had to limit my working hours. Now I’m able to be more intentional with my time.

What is your favorite thing to create?

Definitely lotion. I get to live out my childhood dreams of being a mad scientist.

What is your favorite part of creating?

I created everything I have, because I had a problem. I had extremely sore muscles after a back injury, so I made Epsom salt bath bombs. I felt the push to ditch plastic body wash bottles, so I made bar soap. I couldn’t sleep, so I made magnesium spray. My feet were cracked and dry, so I made tallow balm. I had severe eczema, so I made a colloidal oat lotion. Now I can share things that helped me with others.

When is your favorite time of day to create?

I’m a night owl. I get all my best ideas at night, but I do most of my work in the early afternoon.

What motivates you to create?

At first, I was just trying to use up milk. After a couple craft shows, my motivation has completely changed. I’ve had people tell me they’ve been looking everywhere for soap like mine. They’re extremely sensitive after chemo, they’re avoiding fragrance while going through IVF, or they’re just allergic to everything. I had no idea that something as simple as soap, something that I mindlessly use every day, was actually a huge struggle point for a lot of people. I had no intentions of working past Christmas when I started making soap. I thought I would give everything away as gifts, but now I feel a deep personal calling to making products safe for even the most sensitive skin.
